Mid 2000 we were sitting in Amed and discussed the tremendous changes in the area due to the growing tourism. More and more salt production fields were left unused or sold by their owners to be used for bungalows etc. Since we did not like the idea that the traditional salt production would disappear in the near future we worked out our plan to preserve this tradition for the people of Amed as well as for interested foreigners. In order to combine the development of tourism with the traditional lifestyle we decided to build this hotel and café around the salt production fields and use the salt production as our motto. We strive to preserve the traditional salt production by promoting it as point of interest for foreign tourists and explain the production process. We produce the salt during dry season (when production is possible) and store it in our traditional bamboo hut "Gudang Garam". | | Directions | From Denpasar area (Airport, Kuta, Legian, Nusa Dua, Sanur) you travel on the Bypass (Ngurah Rai) north. Behind Sanur you will cross a bridge and see a petrol station on your left; now you have to use the right lane and turn off towards Ketewel and Klungkung, you are now heading east on the new sunrise road along the coastline. You follow this road (still under construction) until you come to a round about with a traffic light. You go straight and follow the road and you will come to Goa Lawah and then to the turn to Padang Bai. Do not turn right towards Padang Bai, go straight and you will come to Candidasa and then follow the road all the way until you reach Amlapura / Karangasem. Before you go into the center of Amlapura you have to turn left and go up the hill towards Tirtagangga, Abang and Culik. You follow the road up the hill and back down again until you reach Culik. In Culik you turn right towards Amed. You follow the road until you see the ocean and then follow the road turning right. After about 500 meter you will find Hotel Uyah Amed & Spa and Amed Dive Center on your left, right at the beach! Have a safe trip! | | Airport | 3 hours |
