About Chail
Chail (former summer capital of Patiala) is 43kms from Shimla, the erstwhile summer capital of British India. Shimla is currently the capital of the state of Himachal Pradesh. The region is well known for the highest cricket ground in the world and a polo ground which is there at an altitude of 2,250m.
Chail is also considered as the hiker's paradise. The area is away from the bustling life of the state capital Shimla.

Chail essentially owes its birth to the erstwhile Maharaja of Patiala, His Majesty Bhupinder Singh. Patiala (now a city in the state of Punjab), was one of the most prosperous kingdoms in the northern region. In 1891, the Maharaja incurred the rage of Lord Kitchener. It led to the restriction of his entry into the then British summer capital of Shimla. This incensed the Maharaja and he vowed to build a new summer capital for himself. So he built a palace and a summer home, as per his requirements atop a hill near Shimla, and called the area Chail.

Weather
The cool scented breeze whistling through the majestic forests of Deodars makes Chail a heaven on earth lifting ones sprits to be one with God. The solitude, the beauty of nature resplendent in all its glory heightens ones awareness of the almighty and desire to meditate. Tourists visit Chail throughout the year in summers to enjoy its natural coolness and in winters to view the beautiful snow covered hills.
Summer temperatures range between 20-25 degree Celsius throughout the day. During the night, the temperature can drop to about 15 degree Celsius

Places to visit
Chail palace - the palace of the Maharaja of Patiala is considered as one of the most majestic buildings in northern India reminiscent of the bygone British era. Although, the palace was sold by the royal family to the tourism department of the state, the palace still attracts huge number of tourists from all over to revel in its splendour.
Chail Sanctuary - The sanctuary was notified on 21 March 1976 near the town in district Shimla and covers an area of about 10,854.36 hectares. One can see Sambar, Goral and Cheer Pheasants at Blossom and Jhaja. Barking deer and Kalinin are seen during dusk and dawn.

Villa Lavender
